The current epidemic of SARS-Cov-2 sweeping the world is serious, no doubt about that. However, there are most certainly other (foodborne) diseases that are more serious – let’s put SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 into perspective.
The current 2019-nCoV Coronavirus global pandemic has highlighted the importance of; animal reservoirs (and intermediate animal hosts) of disease, animal origins of human disease and zoonotic diseases and raises (again) the possibility of potential foodborne Coronavirus transmission.
Humanity can seemingly do anything and conquer all, yet disease outbreaks, epidemic and pandemics continue to frequently sweep the globe – the rule of microorganisms, outsmarting the smartest species on the planet.
